Duane R. Gibson has decades of experience on Capitol Hill both in the US House of Representatives and US Senate. His federal government experience spans 22 years and encompasses several issue areas: complex legislative strategy, environmental matters, natural resources (mining and timber), defense/national security, transportation (automotive and aircraft), energy and energy efficiency, Native American affairs, tax, healthcare, appropriations and education.
His extensive contacts at the staff and member-level in the House, along with numerous contacts in the Senate and the executive branch, were gained through nearly 12 years as a senior staff member for the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, the House Committee on Resources under Chairman Don Young (R-AK), and working for Chairman Ted Stevens (R-AK) of the Committee on Appropriations and the Committee on Commerce. He has extensive experience building coalitions, developing legislative and appropriations agendas, executing those agendas and producing results for clients.
As a lobbyist, Mr. Gibson has composed, executed and managed teams that have achieved numerous legislative enactments for clients. Among these achievements was enactment of legislation capping the liability of the construction contracting companies that responded to the 9/11 terrorist attacks in New York City, effectively saving the companies hundreds of millions of dollars in litigation costs and potentially billions in possible damages or settlements. Other legislative enactments he was involved with include highway transportation programs for Native Americans and a retroactive change to a Department of Energy auto loan program enabling a client to apply for funds to build highly efficient passenger vehicles. Much of his work involves developing a bipartisan approach to facilitate results for clients.
Mr. Gibson holds two law degrees, one from Georgetown University Law Center, with distinction, and the other, a J.D., from Case Western Reserve University School of Law. He also holds a degree in business administration from Bowling Green State University. Mr. Gibson is admitted to the Alaska Bar, the District of Columbia Bar and the Supreme Court Bar. He is also a small business owner, and holds a private pilot’s license.
