John J. Jaskot joined Jones Walker in 1997 and provides strategic counsel at The Livingston Group. He is a partner and the leader of the law firm’s Government Relations Practice Group.

Previously, Mr. Jaskot worked in Coast Guard headquarters and regional legal offices on a wide variety of domestic and international legal matters, including national security, marine safety and environmental protection, law enforcement, and regulatory and administrative law matters.

In 1992, Mr. Jaskot served as a fellow on the U.S. Senate Subcommittee on Transportation Appropriations, followed by his assignment as the Coast Guard Liaison to the United States Senate, where he worked on the many legislative and funding issues affecting that federal agency. At Jones Walker, he has continued to maintain close working relationships with federal agencies and Congress to serve the interests of his clients.

He received his bachelor of science degree in Ocean Science, with honors, from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in 1976. Following Coast Guard afloat and other operational assignments, he received his juris doctorate, with honors, from The George Washington University Law School in 1984. He is a member of the District of Columbia Bar.
